Invasion of the Deadly Lens Flares

Dearest up-and-coming genre filmmakers,

These crumby glowing blue lines hardly ever convey good production values. They also don't compensate for having zero interesting characters in your script.

For a micro-budget release the VFX are nicely polished, sure -- but I've seen screen savers w/more personality. Rent this if you want to see plotting, acting, & directing only marginally better than BIRDEMIC: SHOCK & TERROR.

438) THE HOLE 3D
(2009 dir. Joe Dante) Date Seen: November 12 2010

Keeping my fingers crossed that a distributor picks this up in time for a Halloween 3D release next year. Even if it's just a limited release. The movie's charming, visually witty, & makes good William Castle-esque use of the 3D gimmick. It's also fairly creepy for a "young adult" fantasy flick. On a par with Gil Kenan's underrated (also 3D) MONSTER HOUSE (2006).. Joe Dante's THE HOLE; like a very competent feature-length episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark"
