PROFESSOR PEABODY'S SPRING BREAK FILM QUIZ

aka PROFESSOR PEABODY'S HYSTERICAL HISTORICAL WAYBACK SPRING BREAK FILM QUIZ

originally posted
APRIL 17, 2009
(old stuff from the now gone "Refined Picture Show" blogspot)

Another great quiz by Dennis Cozzalio.

1) FAVORITE BIOPIC
Personally it's MALCOLM X (1992)

2) DYAN CANNON
                OR TUESDAY WELD?
Both are total dreams, but I choose Tuesday.

3) BEST EXAMPLE OF SCI-FI FUTURISM RENDERED SILLY BY THE EVENT OF TIME CATCHING UP TO THE PREDICTION
Though I love the movie, STRANGE DAYS (1995) really under shot it with the year 1999 setting. Ha!
Most of the stuff in that film still doesn't exist, & it's almost 15 years later. I guess Bigelow and Cameron were just being really optimistic about technology.

4) ANNETTE FUNICELLO & FRANKIE AVALON OR TROY DONAHUE & SANDRA DEE?
Blech!... I guess Funicello & Avalon?
>:-(
I'm sorry I kind of hate these movies.

5) FAVORITE RAOUL WALSH
White Light, WHITE HEAT (1949)

6) SOPHOMORE FILM WHICH REPRESENTS GREATEST IMPROVEMENT OVER THE DIRECTOR'S DEBUT
Off the top of my head,
      Agnes Varda's CLEO FROM 5 TO 7 (1962).

7) ICE CUBE OR MOS DEF?
Ice Cube more as a screen presence..
and Mos Def more as a rapper.

8) FAVORITE MOVIE ABOUT
           THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
It used to be PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974) but now it's WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY (2007).

9)
FAVORITE LOONEY TUNES SHORT
PORKY IN WACKYLAND (1938)

10) DIRECTOR MOST DESERVING OF RESPECT OR UPWARDLY MOBILE CRITICAL REASSESSMENT
Bong Joon-ho of the new directors.
and Ida Lupino for the classic era

11) RUTH GORDON
      OR MARGARET HAMILTON
Maude <3

12) BEST FILMED ADAPTATION
                   OF A PLAY
THE RULING CLASS (1972)

13) BUDDY EBSEN
         OR EDGAR BUCHANAN?
Edgar..

14) FAVORITE JEAN RENOIR
RULES OF THE GAME (1939)

15) FAVORITE ONE-WORD

because it fits the theme of that film perfectly.

16) ERNEST THESIGER
         OR BASIL RATHBONE?
Thesiger!

17) SUMMER MOVIES---
YOUR HIGHEST & LOWEST EXPECTATIONS
I'm most excited for Tarantino's war movie and the new TERMINATOR!

And worried the STAR TREK reboot will suck. because I hate those TRANSFORMERS screenwriters and I think JJ Abrams works better on tv. (was not a fan of M:I-3)
I don't want it to be a loud dumb action movie like STAR TREK: NEMESIS (2002).

18) WHETHER OR NOT YOU'RE A PARENT, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL PICK AS FIRST MOVIE TO SEE WITH YOUR OWN CHILD OR NIECE/NEPHEW? WHY?
SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937)
Because it's brisk, bright, & colorful..

19) L.Q. JONES
            OR STROTHER MARTIN
L.Q. Jones, baby!

20) MOVIE MOST RECENTLY SEEN IN THEATERS? ON DVD/BLURAY?
at the theater: CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE

on Blu ray: Oliver Stone's W.

21) DO YOU SEE MORE MOVIES THEATRICALLY OR AT HOME? WHY?
On average I see more at home. but not by too much. I watch one film per day on tv (since about 2003) and at the very least 2 at the theater in a week.

22) NAME AN AWARD-WORTHY COMIC PERFORMANCE THAT WAS COMPLETELY IGNORED BY OSCAR AND HIS PALS
Sally Hawkins last year in HAPPY-GO-LUCKY.

23) ZAC EFRON & VANESSA HUDGENS OR ROBERT PATTINSON & KRISTEN STEWART?
I wish the pairing was Efron and K.Stew. I actually think they're both great actors in their own right.
photoshop. but you get the idea

24) NAME A GREAT (OR MERELY VERY GOOD) MOVIE THAT IS TOO PAINFUL TO WATCH A 2ND TIME
A great one is Koreeda's heartbreaking NOBODY KNOWS (2004)

Una! She's great in everything.

29)
FAVORITE VINCENT PRICE MOVIE
De Toth's HOUSE OF WAX (1953)

30) NAME A MOVIE CURRENTLY FLYING UNDER THE RADAR THAT IS DESERVING OF RABID CULT STATUS
This movie called ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE (2006) that I saw at SXSW two years ago! Like the original SCREAM (1996), it's a stylish send-up of the slasher genre.

31) IRENE RYAN OR LUCILLE BENSON (OR BEA BENADERET)?
Bea!

32) SINGLE LINE FROM A MOVIE THAT NEVER FAILS TO MAKE YOU LAUGH OR OTHERWISE CHEER YOU UP (THE LINE DOES NOT HAVE TO COME FROM A COMEDY)
Chris Farley's whole "That Veronica Vaughn is one piece of ACE" bit from BILLY MADISON (1995).

Why, yes. I am still 13 years old..

33) ELLIOT GOULD
    OR DONALD SUTHERLAND?
Love both, but prefer Sutherland.

34) BEST PERFORMANCE BY A DIRECTOR IN AN ACTING ROLE
John Huston in CHINATOWN (1974).

35) FAVORITE STANWYCK
THE LADY EVE (1941)

36) OUTSIDE OF READING FILM CRITICISM OR OTHER LITERATURE ABOUT THE MOVIES, WHAT SUBJECT DO YOU ENJOY READING OR STUDYING WHICH YOU WOULD SAY BEST ENRICHES OR ILLUMINATES YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF LIFE, A LIFE THAT INCLUDES THE MOVIES?
World History. (particularly through a sociological lens)
