didn't like it as much as part one, but I honestly dig the universe Kiah & Tristan built enough to watch multiple stories set within it.. more than a LITTLE BIT RIPE for exploration.
I demand a trilogy now

It's Brad Anderson so there's some expected tight mise-en-scène along the way-- but yeah, I found most of this to be surprisingly predictable. In terms of plot reveals & the main character's arc, it seemed like a lot of the psychological thrillers we were inundated with in the early aughts.

a nice humble little vampire comedy. & one that thankfully features traditional Dracula-style bloodsuckers. I've enjoyed recent revisionism to vampire mythology as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just want to see the classic depictions of these monsters. VAMPIRES VS. THE BRONX is competently staged & shot, but the real highlight for me was the whole ensemble cast. Both the newcomers & the established character actors. Also the script does a good job balancing the funny bits with the scares to the point where I'd say its energy falls somewhere between FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) and ATTACK THE BLOCK (2011).

I kept wishing Mr. Bean would make an appearance at the titular estate.. He could show these upper-class twits what a proper Englishman is supposed to be.
The original 1975 ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN is one of those mixed bag genre hybrids that contains so many cool ideas, it's easy to see why the concept of a remake would build interest over time at the mouse house. I personally have a grocery list of about 70 old movies that might not really be beloved today (or even remembered), but they all still have something potentially great within as far as narrative hooks & characters go. I get the temptation to re-do these types of movies more than bona fide classics. There's a chance to improve upon flaws & expand on whatever; + the I.P. might still have name recognition among consumers. But, boy oh boy, the producers really fudged the bed with this pale reboot. All the direction is clunky, the editing blows, the acting is stilted, and most of the effects look like something from the early 2000s.. a true missed opportunity.
