29) WHAT IS CINEMA?
(2013 dir. Chuck Workman) Date Seen: January 22 2015

Like FREE RADICALS (2011), essential viewing if you're searching for some titles (& directors) more outside of traditional narrative convention. This film might even cast a wider net than that. Both docs have the infectious quality of a cineaste opening a door & saying, “Look at the wild images these people created.”

26) VICE
(2015 dir. Brian A. Miller) Date Seen: January 20 2015

Lousy script stumbles upon a wealth of ideas —what's consciousness, manufacturing beings that can suffer, the cruelty of man— and proceeds to squander all of them.. Just a gross & dreary film about mechanical obedience, punctuated by some very goofy one-liners.
