I feel like this would be as well-regarded as DEEPSTAR SIX (1989) in some horror circles today were it not for its low budget stop-motion effects. Creature animations that admittedly look more Wallace & Gromit than Ray Harryhausen. But honestly that aspect makes up such a small part of the movie's runtime as it's more concerned with deftly depicting the suspense & paranoia of a claustrophobic nightmare than showing the monster. I guess we all have personal things we're cinematically nitpicky about, I'd just hope that even those with a tendency to get ultra-hung up on production value "believability" would be more forgiving of such creative resourcefulness. After all, what's seen as a modest shortcoming in one film could look like an inventive solution to another.

I loved the initial setup of this & the existential dread it inspires. They didn't even need the added When Animals Attack element to remain effective as a thriller, though it is a nice touch. However something's revealed later on that dissipates much of the film's DAY OF THE DEAD-esque atmospheric bleakness, & around that same time the behavior of some of the characters takes a turn for the silly.
