My mother was the one who was always trying to
shield me from horror and would get mad when I was
always watching them as a teenager. Due to her
protective nature+ all the memories she has of me not
being able to sleepas a child because I was scared.
"You're filling your mind with all that violence and
scary images!" to which I only replied something like
"It's not that scary.".. Now I wish I had said "Some of
these movies have great resilient characters & are
causing me to think long & hard about philosophical
questions!" And "they're preparing me for the
nightmare of adult life!"

Watching DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) for the first time
with my dad in middle school! We had to drive all the
way to a Best Buy in Plano to get the only copy they
had in stock. My dad had fond memories of seeing it
during it's original release and he had got me super
stoked to see it. I already loved NIGHT OF THE
LIVING DEAD (1968) at that point but he knew I
would like the 2nd one even more for its more modern
setting & action tropes. DAWN did not disappoint!
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT/SIGNIFICANT HORROR
MOVIE OF THE PAST 20 YEARS
(1992-2012)? WHY?
28 DAYS LATER (2002) for the technical innovation
28 DAYS LATER (2002) for the technical innovation
of being shot digital and also for the way it visualized
pandemic & civil unrest. It took all of Romero's pet
themes & updated them perfectly to the age of
terrorism. It felt like I was watching a visceral
documentary about the collapse of society and not just
another big studio movie. Almost as revolutionary as
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) must have
been in its day.
