Not completely soulless, but let's be real -- this is a commercially calculated retread by a desperate Sony; & it's few good new ideas never outweigh that nagging sense that, audio/visually, we've already seen this movie 3 times before (& by a stylistic powerhouse named Sam Raimi).. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is only ever a hair above vanilla & that's mostly thanks to its cast & VFX teams.
