not really familiar with Kormákur as a director outside of JAR CITY. oh & I guess that first thing he did with Mark Wahlberg last year, which this was much better than.. I'd say this was a mostly decent serviceable action comedy. I wish the two leads had better 48 HRS chemistry though.

Not even just within Folk-horror, but in the history of human storytelling by and large-- Tales about supernatural wishes or bargains are always cautionary. This film succeeds because it creates a convincingly immersive and unsettling world, using a distinctly bizarre supernatural premise to explore the dangers of unquestioned faith and tradition. Inherited communal violence is potentially much more disturbing than spontaneous violence.
