I love Dr. Means Coleman's invaluable book that this is based on, but I always tend to favor an audio/visual companion piece like this, & not merely because I'm easily distracted while reading, but 'cause I think it's more accessible to the masses this way. Also hearing the various interviewee's takes on pop-culture, history, and cinema can sometimes be genuinely surprising. Take your social conscience vitamins and watch this alongside REEL INJUN, THE SLANTED SCREEN, and THE CELLULOID CLOSET for maximum food for thought.
Btw the trio of Rachel True, Ken Foree, & Keith David talking movies together should be a regular thing. Their unique chemistry & individual perspectives were electrifying. Someone produce a podcast or commentary series with them.
