sorta wild that 2012 saw Pixar do the revisionist Disney-Princess story in BRAVE and actual Disney did this very Pixar-esque one --what's essentially TOY STORY inside the world of video games.. WRECK-IT RALPH's a nifty little dopamine hit of a movie. Bright, unexpectedly tender, & full of clever meta-reference easter eggs from gaming history. I did feel like halfway through when the characters ended up in Sugar Rush racing the film got a little too hopped up on its own candy-colored frenzy in a stylistically ugly way. Ever feel like a film is just trying to overwhelm you with visual information because they've forgotten how to dynamically inspire wonder? A few annoying were like that were (& most likely gave my eyes diabetes) but fortunately the film does chill out enough later again to just enjoy the rest of the game.

I do wish John C. Reilly had voiced Ralph as Dr. Steve Brule.

Blown away by this one. It might even dethrone ROAD TO PERDITION as my favourite Mendes film. Strongly debating it.. And Deakins shooting fully digital and it looking this good? Positively shocking.
