Through use of tropes from both the slasher film & curse horror subgenres, and a uniquely unsettling, slow-building atmosphere, David Robert Mitchell's newest very creepily explores themes of generational and existential alienation.. Maybe I saw that "id monster" scene in FORBIDDEN PLANET far too young? but for some reason I still to this day find the idea of a threat you can’t always see to be relentless terrifying (And then sometimes seeing it is even worse than when it was invisible). Very inventive & thematically potent stuff. I hope it doesn’t get franchise-ified.
