369) THE REQUIN
(2022 dir. Lê Văn Kiệt) Date Seen: June 3 2022

Director Lê-Văn Kiệt’s FURIE was one of my favorite movies of 2019, so this being a less than stellar follow up is obviously a big disappointment for me. It lacks that essential survival horror atmosphere and human depth that made THE SHALLOWS great and made JAWS the g.o.a.t. shark movie. The terror just never gets a chance to build up due to how boring most of the scenes are constructed. Stank ass tedium is lurking in those waters instead of stark raving fear. Alicia Silverstone is still a very competent & attractive actress but she’s given so little to work with here in terms of character. But a gig is a gig; so at least she got paid. btw THE REQUIN features the worst blue screen chroma key shot I’ve seen since last year's DEATH ON THE NILE (2021).

368) АМБА: PART 1 & 2
(1994 dir. Gennady Tishchenko) Date Seen: June 3 2022

I've liked all the films I've seen by Gennady Tishchenko, but the way the animation quality in some of these can quickly switch from good to mediocre then back again in the span of a few minutes.. almost felt like it was giving me psychic whiplash. This 2 parter in particular had incredible moments like something out of Laloux's GANDAHAR & then suddenly the visuals would tank and it'd look worse than Filmation-era
He-Man for a bit.

367) MASTERS OF GEONA
                  ХОЗЯЕВА ГЕОНЫ
(1992 dir. Gennady Tishchenko) Date Seen: June 3 2022

Would make a groovy double feature with that Mœbius-inspired FAITHFUL WOOKIEE short. (the only good thing to come from the Star Wars Holiday Special)

366) VAMPIRES OF GEONA
                   ВАМПИРЫ ГЕОНЫ
(1991 dir. Gennady Tishchenko) Date Seen: June 3 2022

Вампиры Геоны in English roughly translates to: "Jar of gypsy tears protect you from vampire"
