(2026 dir. Alejandro G. Iñárritu) Date Seen: October 7 2026
Iñárritu's always struck me as a filmmaker whose technical virtuosity far exceeds his originality of vision, though he can be quite resourceful as an a/v DJ when it comes to sampling other people's aesthetics. & based on the ads I was dreading the wholesale borrowing of the production design and grotesque makeup vibes of Roy Andersson's films, but I personally ended up feeling like the re-appropriation of these elements was surprisingly inspired. The whole movie honestly plays like a Kubrickian obsessive attempting to do Wes Anderson's ASTEROID CITY, and damned if I can explain why so much of that worked for me. Having a genuinely funny & great Tom Cruise in the lead certainly helps; though part of me wishes the whole thing had just been a Les Grossman origin story.
405) THE PSYCHIC
[SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK]
Fulci doing a Hitchcockian thriller! Emphasis on the Cockian.. Genuinely deranged & crazy stuff.
