256)
MY BEST FRIEND IS A VAMPIRE
(1987 dir. Jimmy Huston) Date Seen: April 23 2022

With either smarter irony or heavier pathos this could have been the FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF of teen vampire movies. So many parts are stylishly goofy while others are too convenient & hackneyed.. I will say the underrated Paul Willson is hilarious here in a Mark Mothersbaugh vs. Chris Farley way. I loved how his character was the bumbling Lou Costello to the Van Helsing guy's Bud Abbott.

255) DEAD LEAVES
                     デッド リーブス
(2004 dir. Hiroyuki Imaishi) Date Seen: April 23 2022

Had to be an influence on AACHI & SSIPAK (2006) on some subconscious level.. Also; If Jamie Hewlett ever gets to make an animated Tank Girl film, DEAD LEAVES is a wellspring of the right type of bonkers energy for the crew to draw inspiration from (and all his Gorillaz music videos, obviously)

254) CLIFFORD
(1994 dir. Paul Flaherty) Date Seen: April 23 2022

253) LÓ A HÁZBAN
             [HORSE IN THE HOUSE]
(1976 dir. Györgyi Csonka) Date Seen: April 23 2022

Endlessly inventive with the way it blends Fauvism color schemes with pop art design. Just another garish & striking example of the power of psychedelic animation.🍄😵 What's up with them Hungarians? I thought they were all supposed to be spooky-ass Bela Lugosis & Béla Tarrs.

252) THE HOLE
(1962 dir. the Hubleys) Date Seen: April 23 2022

pretty badass that this won the Oscar for best animated short. So many mixed & seemingly conflicting colors & techniques overlapping in one sweet little toon, yet everything somehow gels perfectly. I've always felt like Faith & John Hubley's work was like a jazzy animation predecessor to Stanley Donwood & Thom Yorke's graphic design stuff in that way.
