Though it's obviously directed by J. Mank, so many shots bring to mind Val Lewton & Tourneur. The spookiest of deep shadows that wouldn't be out of place in one of their chillers.. I wish there were more atmospheric near-fairy tales like this and CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE from the era
