CINEMATIC HOLY MOMENTS: 1982

by Toby

[re-upload from the now defunct thewanderingimage.tumblr.com]
my personal favorite moments from films to receive a 1982 U.S. release. Not all of which made my actual “Best Films of 1982” list, but at least had incredible segments that stayed with me since first viewing. Scenes that I’m sure I’ll want to re-visit again and again.
+ was actually featured on Toby's 1982 "Best of"

+
Juxtaposition of E.T. getting drunk at home & Elliot causing chaos in science class
. Specifically the bit where E.T. is wrapped up in THIS ISLAND EARTH and THE QUIET MAN.. Elliot’s actions begin mirroring John Wayne’s in the film, etc. the decision to visualize their psychic link this way was a stroke of movie genius
- E.T.:
THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL
                           (Spielberg)
+

+

      - DIVA (Beineix)

Elliott tells E.T. about all of his toys & their names. the way the bedroom is dimly lit at sunrise by closed blinds.. Everything about the scene captures a child’s wonder perfectly
- E.T.:
THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL
                           (Spielberg)
+
Light-cycle duel & escape sequence
       - TRON (Lisberger)
