my personal favorite moments from films to receive a 1982 U.S. release. Not all of which made my actual “Best Films of 1982” list, but at least had incredible segments that stayed with me since first viewing. Scenes that I’m sure I’ll want to re-visit again and again.

Juxtaposition of E.T. getting drunk at home & Elliot causing chaos in science class. Specifically the bit where E.T. is wrapped up in THIS ISLAND EARTH and THE QUIET MAN.. Elliot’s actions begin mirroring John Wayne’s in the film, etc. the decision to visualize their psychic link this way was a stroke of movie genius
- E.T.:
THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL
(Spielberg)
+
- QUEST FOR FIRE (Annaud)
+
STAR TREK II:
THE WRATH OF KHAN
(Meyer)
+
- DIVA (Beineix)

Elliott tells E.T. about all of his toys & their names. the way the bedroom is dimly lit at sunrise by closed blinds.. Everything about the scene captures a child’s wonder perfectly

+
the entire blood needle test.. The process of uncovering the identity of the creature. Extremely suspenseful to this day
