Viewing Journal: 12/22/2021

729)
THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS
(2021 dir. Lana Wachowski) Date Seen: December 22 2021

728)
   HOME SWEET HOME ALONE
(2021 dir. Dan Mazer) Date Seen: December 22 2021

People who theorize Kevin McCallister grows up to be Jigsaw need to get a load of this kid. (the character; Not the child playing him). Kevin might've been a snot-nosed yuppie, but he at least acted like he had genuine empathy for downtrodden people: he cuddled Tuppence the Bag lady and gave birdseed to her pigeons in part 2 + he gave free counseling to that Boo Radley neighbor in part one. I could see this l
imey Pugsley growing up to be the worst kind of reprobate.
Possibly even a Tory.

727) ALIEN XMAS
(2020 dir. Chiodo bros.) Date Seen: December 22 2021

A clever & plucky Christmas short containing all of the D.I.Y. qualities we’ve come to love & expect from the Chiodo brothers. Maybe its execution isn’t as polished as the other big releases from the giant animation studios this time of year, but some would say that’s a plus and not a minus. (After all; Rankin/Bass were a much smaller animation outfit when they did their biggest hits & that’s arguably who’s work this is patterned on). It also just feels kosher when a kids cartoon lampoons consumerism in any way around the holidays.

726) THE LAST MATINEE
         [AL MORIR LA MATINÉE]
(2021 dir. Maximiliano Contenti) Date Seen: November 22 2021

Sort of like a spit-shined & improved THE LAST SHOWING (2014). Only where that film was trying to be a Wes Craven-style meta slasher, this one is more indebted to Argento & Sergio Martino.
